This is our adoption story.....
November
2010
was the beginning of our adoption journey – to be completed May 2016. 5 ½ years later… not what we imagined entering
into the journey but exactly what the Lord had planned. This was a journey our family did
together. Our three other children began
praying for their sister to be back in 2011.
They were 11, 9 and 6 when we began – we prayed daily, went through
months of media fasts together, talked about the adoption, prepared her room
that she would share with her sister, bought bunk beds, learned about the
culture together, learned to cook Indian food, anxiously waited upon the Lord
together. There were so many tears as
the wait lengthened, confusement as to what the Lord was doing, why wasn’t He
answering our prayers as we had hoped, money invested again and again into the
paperwork, notaries, fingerprints, extensions; plans put on hold – vacations not
taken because we never knew when the adoption would happen. August 30, 2011 – I wrote on our blog… “The kids talk about her often, plan things they are
going to do together when she comes. I found Jessica on her knees on her
bed 2 nights ago praying... When I asked her what she was praying out she just
smiled and said, "you know..." and then jumped out of bed and
proceeded to show me the dolls she had picked out to give to her new sister
when she came... It is hard to answer Jessica's sweet questions of..." how
many more days until my sister comes?" I know the Lord is teaching
each one of us different things through these months of waiting....” This adoption journey was not just for Joseph
and I – it was part of the Lord’s plan for Luke, Daniel and Jessica as
well. And it was the Lord’s perfect plan
for Aleeya – across the world in India. The Lord spoke to each one of us
individually and our faith and relationship with the Lord developed in ways I
could have never orchestrated, but God knew.
They were 16, 13 and 11 when we finally brought Aleeya (age 4 ½) home to
our family. This is our adoption story…
